Learning Class
(Updated: 3/25/2017)
The objective of the cross-country Learning Class is to provide an opportunity for new pilots to experience cross-country flying with simplified rules that emphasize both distance and speed using a small well-defined subset of Regional Sports Class rules. Also, to create a positive transfer of rules knowledge and experience to M-ASA Task Day and SSA sponsored contests as well as to reduce barriers to participation. In addition, an objective is to keep it simple, fun and informal.
Flights are on M-ASA scheduled days of operations and are scored according to simplified SSA Regional Sports Class rules. This an excellent way to introduce competition to the pilot who wants to discover cross country soaring. The Learning Class includes options for mentoring less-experienced pilots.
The Learning Class Champion is the pilot with the highest cumulative score at the end of the scheduled soaring season.
